The average building is full of toxic chemicals that have a detrimental effect on human and environmental health. Google’s flagship sustainability program is dedicated to choosing and procuring the healthiest possible materials for their workspaces around the world. We partnered with Google’s Real Estate and Workplaces team to design a global Healthy Materials program that can keep pace with Google’s rapid growth.

We guided the Google team through Workshop’s human-centered model of Research > Strategy > Roadmap. Together, we designed a more scalable program that integrates into the typical process for Design and Construction projects. This entailed a thoughtful redesign of services, business processes and technology tools to support the program.

This assignment required us to: facilitate alignment across a diverse team of visionaries and tacticians, identify the business levers that incentivize teams to choose healthy materials, and develop a modular solution for projects of all different types and sizes.
